We Dig For Victory!

About this site

During the Second World War (1939-1945) millions of people worked together growing in allotments, back gardens and using any space available to produce food in the UK in the war against fascism.

In the same spirit, we now face the twin challenges of global warming and peak oil. We need to mobilise with the same kind of spirit and resolve as then to protect our shared future as well as the future for our children.

Why Dig for Victory?

30% of our carbon footprint comes from the food we eat. By eating and growing closer to home we can reduce our carbon footprint, a major contributor to climate change

By growing our own food we can truly appreciate the care and love that goes into producing our food and feel a sense of well-being by being more connected to our food and our landscape, experiencing more independence, confidence and satisfaction as we participate in our local food chain.

Growing and eating local food, we are actively building a resilient local economy with more jobs and greater food security.

Reducing food miles and packaging - we're making the move to support more sustainable systems of agriculture as well as better nutrition and health.
